BURLINGTON CODE STUDY
During the development of a new form based zoning code, the City of Burlington looked for design examples that met the requirements of the proposed code, in order to analyze the design impacts on the city. The study looked at a variety of elements including: scale, window fenestration, floor heights as well as details such as galleries, awnings and roof top decks. In the study, the goal was not to design beautiful buildings, but rather to test the code and provide examples that developers could proposed under the code as it was written. The information from these examples then allowed the committee to modify the drafted code prior to implementing it.
